BOOM: The future super sonic plane

After the last blog about the super sonic commercial plane CONCORDE , many of you asked about the BOOM super sonic plane . so let’s talk about the BOOM.

So in the current market , no passenger plane can fly supersonic . So the BOOM came with  the idea of flying super sonic . Most probably it will be introduced in 2023 . The XB-1 “Baby Boom” should make its first  flight in late 2018 , before being tested at supersonic speed in 2019.

The plane is designed to have 55 seats (all business class) with a top speed of mach 2.2 (2,300 km/hr) and the range will be 4,500nmi (8,300km). As we can see in the picture, it has the same delta wing configuration that CONCORDE had but it would be built in composite materials for lower costs. It will be powered by three 3500  lbf dry GENERAL Electric CJ610 engines .

Speed Difference

As the Concorde was very successful in Trans-Atlantic flights , BOOM is going to follow this . With a range of 4,500 nmi it can easily fly from London-new york but in case of trans-pacific flight it would require a refueling stop. It has a speed of mach 2.2 means you will arrive at your destination in half-time. The Boom factory will be sized to assemble up to 100 aircrafts per year for a 1000 to 2000 aircraft potential market over 10 years.

 The fare for New york to London will be $5000(As per 2017) as all are in business class seats , while in longer routes like San Francisco-Tokyo or Los Angeles-Sydney, 30 lie-flat first class seats could be proposed alongside 15 business-class seats.

In march 2016, Richard Branson confirmed that Virgin Atlantic hold options for 10 aircraft and an European carrier orders for 15 aircrafts . The key success came to this project at the 2017 Paris Air Show. 51 commitments were added for a backlog of 76 with significant deposits. Also Japan Airlines confirmed to have 20 jets .

What makes this plane special.

1.Design- It will not be like other planes . You can easily recognize it from miles.

2.seating- There will be all business class seats and first class seats may be available on long-haul                        routes.

3.All window seat- yes, there will be no aisle seat. All seats will be window seat .

4.speed- You will experience super sonic speed .Mach 2.2

5.interior- Interior is designed for comfort,privacy and productivity.

6-window- There will be large window seats to get better experience.

7-height- The plane will give you an experience to see the world above 60,000 ft. Generally the regular plane fly in between 40,000 ft , but this plane will cruise at 60,000 ft.
